New COVID Variant: Mu

The World Health Organization has monitored ‘Mu’ as a new variant of Coronavirus. It is being classified as one of the ‘variant of interest’ as it shows an indication of risk of resistance to vaccines along with the other listed variants like ‘Alpha’, ‘Beta’, ‘Gamma’, and ‘Delta.’

Mu, otherwise known scientifically as B.1.621, has been now monitored. WHO confirmed that it was first found in Colombia in January 2021. It has so far been found in about 39 countries, according to WHO, which gives a signal to not be complacent after fully vaccinated.

According to weforum website, Mu has changes, called mutations, for this reason, it resists on the vaccines as it evades some of the protection and properties from the Covid vaccines. Therefore, if there are changes it only implies that there’s a chance and potential to do more harm specifically as it is classified by Health Experts as ‘variant of interest.’

However, WHO said it needs more studies to fully understand the clinical characteristics of the said variant.

Therefore, whether you are fully vaccinated or not, to be very careful enough is way better. Be keen on your surroundings because it helps.

Be educated and keep safe always!
